Suggestion for use of Club Excess Funds - First Aid Training

At this morning’s AGM/breakfast meeting, Wayne and Tom shared with the membership that for a variety of reasons, the Club has accumulated an excess of funds.  I would like to float an idea for possibly utilizing some of those excess funds that may have the added benefit of making us all just a little safer out there on the road.  I have lately been thinking more and more about what I would do if confronted with a situation where I or one of my riding companions is involved in a bike accident and sustains an injury, and possibly a serious injury!  I have to admit that currently, I would be of little help in such a situation as I have zero first aid training!  That is kind of a scary prospect, given that we each participate in an activity that is universally considered one of the more risky ones to engage in!  And, having someone immediately available to administer first aid (before the EMT people arrive) could be the difference between a fellow rider pulling through… or not!  So, my idea is to use some of the excess funds to coordinate and cover some of the cost of first aid training for club members that is specifically aimed at the kinds of situations that one is likely to encounter while riding a motorcycle.  Perhaps there are some members of the club who have extensive first aid training, but I suspect there are others who, like me, have precious little of that kind of training.  Just throwing it out there to see if there might be some interest in pursuing the idea.

Not a bad suggestion at all.  I remember we did something similar to this when I was with the Coast Riders in the Lower Mainland many years ago.  I've taken several First Aid courses over the years.  I've been fortunate enough that I haven't had to put those skills to good use and it's been quite a few years since my last on.  A refresher might be well worth while.
We may have to do a bit of digging to see who is available in our area to run a course.
