Wondering if anyone has any experience with having a stator rewound locally and could recommend a place to have it done. I am not entirely sure that doing a rewind is economical over just buying new given the labour involved but I thought I would investigate.

Hi Mike:

Sorry I can't think of anyone locally who rewinds stators.  You might consider aftermarket as they might be cost effective compared to OEM.  Years ago I bought a stator from Enduralast for a Yamaha Venture that worked out well.  Actually raised the output slightly.  Might be worth a look.

Thanks Wayne. Essentially I am weighing rewind versus replacement and looking at cost and availability. The early F800 Rotax motors tend to fry the stators when the kilometers accumulate especially in hotter climates. In 2013 Rotax redesigned the flywheel to improve venting and cooling. A few years back I pro-actively replaced the stator in Janice's bike with a stator from RMStator before her Ontario to California trip. I will want to do the same on my bike one of these days.

Have you checked with one of the Automotive Electric shops?  I would think rewinding a stator shouldn't be that much different than rewinding an alternator.  I did a quick google search (Automotive Electric Kelowna) and a number of shops showed up.
